FITNESS fanatics undertook the ultimate endurance test at a class-a-thon in aid of the National Kidney Federation.

Gym goers took part in six consecutive classes at the David Lloyd Fitness Centre in Blunsdon in a bid to raise funds as well as their heart rates.

First-aid trainer Becky Gaulton, from Redhouse, had a very special reason for organising the five-hour event.

“My sister Jan Taylor had a kidney transplant 40 years ago and since then she has lived life to the full. It’s all thanks to the donor and the work the National Kidney Federation do that she has managed to do this,” she said.

To mark the 40-year milestone Jan wants to give something back to fund more research into kidney diseases and celebrate the remarkable feat.

For the past year her sons Daniel, 26, and Greg Mosley, 23, have been spearheading a fundraising campaign on behalf of the family to try to raise £2,000 for the National Kidney Federation.

The six classes were a mixture of cardio and body toning with Body Combat vs Body Attack, body pump, Grit, spin, Cx works and Pilates.

“It’s a bit of fun, people dipped in and out of the classes and there were those, including me, who went the full course," said Becky.

"There was a lot of sweat and a few shaky moments but we were so happy to complete it and of course raise all the money for the charity. It really was mind over matter."

And Jan also got involved by manning the cake stall.

With £202 raised through the cake sale and £340 from the class-a-thon Becky was delighted with the outcome of the event.
