GREAT Bedwyn skipper Alistair Tuttle reckons his side will take a lot of confidence from their opening league victory of the season.

Tuttle’s men broke their duck five weeks into the summer campaign as they wrapped up a five-wicket triumph over fellow strugglers Calne at Beversbrook.

Sean Adams' 70 from 92 balls anchored Calne’s innings as they totalled 225-9 from their 50 overs, skipper Dan Knight adding an unbeaten 42.

Chris Blundy took three wickets for Bedwyn while Max Andrews, Ben Smith and Tuttle himself each claimed two victims.

The reply started positively, with John Palmer (55) and Casey Grocke (26) putting on 79 for the first wicket.

Blundy added 30 before Neil Maycock’s unbeaten 60 from 51 balls guided the villagers home.

Tuttle said: “We’re very happy because we knew when we saw the fixtures (at the start of the season) that our first four would be very hard.

“We’d been focusing on the Calne game and the win gives us a lot of confidence. The second team won for the first time as well at the weekend so the club was very buoyant.’’ Devizes clinched their first win of the campaign with a 127-run dismissal of hosts Malmesbury.

Devizes’ 227-9 was built around Chris Downham’s 43 not out from number nine as well as 37 from skipper Tom Grant.

Josh Langley took three wickets for the home side, but the target proved well beyond reach with the bat.

Ewen Kenny hit 38 but Malmesbury lost their last six wickets for 26 runs as Tim Saye breezed through the order with 5-8 from just five overs.

Marshfield saw their good early form stalled by a heavy 106-run defeat to Trowbridge, who went clear at the top of the table.

Trowbridge were restricted to 185 all out in their innings, Tom Weaver hitting an unbeaten 55 and opener Tom Oakley 43 as Cameron Walker took 4-23.

However, the reply foundered on the bowling of Scott Mitchell (6-22) and Brendan Louwj (3-17) as Marshfield subsided to 79 all out inside 30 overs.

Marlborough clinched a 71-run success over Purton as opener Nick Crabbe (67) and Fraser Gordon (71) shared an opening partnership of 153 in their 223-5.

Xander Pitchers took 3-38 for Purton but he and fellow opener Sam Shelford were the highest scorers with 26 and 30 respectively as they were dismissed for 152.

Paul Smith and Gordon took three wickets apiece for Marlborough.
