THE Walcott Community Shop in Sussex Place had a real sweetner for the nurses at Macmillan Cancer Support yesterday.

Staff from the shop handed over a sweet jar full of money to the charity.

Sue Martin, 68, of Pinehurst, and one of the directors of the community shop, said: “People have been very generous. We don’t know how much money we have collected but we think, judging by the weight, it’s well over £100.”

The collection was the idea of Robert Thomson who started it in memory of his sister Josline Pearsall who received care and support from Macmillan during her illness.

Volunteers at the shop presented Steve Goodrick of Macmillan Cancer Support with the large jar of money donated by the staff and customers.

Sue said: "The shop continues to support Macmillan by selling cups of tea and coffee. The Coop in Sussex Place is kindly providing the tea and coffee and sugar through their community fund."
