STUDENTS from The Ridgeway School and Sixth Form College in Wroughton have raised more than £1,800 for Prospect Hospice.

Erin McCubbin and Fiona Harvey, who led the organising committee for this year’s quiz, visited the hospice recently to present a cheque for £1,811.61 raised by the quiz which was held in April.

The event was attended by more than forty teams of students, families and members of the public and the sixth form charity team worked hard to gather a selection of raffle prizes and auction lots, which included a donated iPad that raised £210.

“We feel that Prospect Hospice is such a good cause to fundraise for because of the fantastic work the hospice does, and the difference that it makes to the community,” said Erin. “It is particularly important to me because my own grandmother passed away there in 2011.

“It was really wonderful to see how eager people were to donate prizes to the raffle, and how supportive they were on the night.”

Ridgeway School has been a long-standing supporter of the work of Prospect Hospice, and has raised £13,385 through the quizzes and various other fundraising including a cabaret night, auctions, cake sales and fashion shows since they first began supporting the charity in the 1990s.

“We are hugely grateful to everyone at Ridgeway School for their fantastic support for Prospect Hospice, and I continue to be impressed by the eagerness of the sixth formers who organise the quiz to raise funds for us each year,” said Prospect Hospice community fundraiser Amy Francombe. “It just demonstrates that the whole community gets behind the work that we do, and can have a great time through raising funds for us.

“Our thanks go to everyone who organised and supported the quiz again this year, and to the school for their ongoing support for us. They have made a real difference for the patients and families we care for and support.”
