A BEAUTIFUL sunset over The Ridgeway and a frost-kissed Lawn Woods are among some of the picturesque scenes in the running for the title of the best view in Wiltshire.

Old Town photographer Lynette Thomas has submitted the two images from around the town among her June submissions to VisitWiltshire's popular photograph competition.

She has also captured to images from Stonehenge and a spring carpeting of Bluebells at West Woods, Lockeridge which make up the five that she is able to submit for the month of June.

Photographers - both professional and amateur - across the county are being urged to submit their work to the competition to be in with the chance of winning a top prize of a £300 voucher. Each photographer can submit up to five images per month from now until September.

Last month Lynette became the first photographer across the county to submit her photographic work to the contest, with her images of Womad, a rainbow at Milk Hill, Swallowhead Spring, Solstice celebrations at Avebury and an artfully captured image of the natural world seen through an abandoned window frame.

Lynette, who has no formal photography training, revealed her background was more in illustration than photography, but she has been able to use her artistic eye to capture some inspiring images of the best the county has to offer.

Photographers need to try and capture the essence of life in Wiltshire, its people and landscape. To help them along, VisitWiltshire has set four “timeless” categories for them to consider entering.

These are:

• Timeless Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s White Horses.

• Timeless Places: including market towns, villages and other attractions.

• Timeless Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals and events, arts and entertainment.

• Timeless Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna.

Those wishing to enter the contest should send their submissions to photocompetition@visitwiltshire.co.uk. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 and over. In addition to the main prize of a £300 voucher there will also be two runners up prizes of £50 in vouchers as well.

Only colour, digital photos will be accepted and all photographs must be submitted as jpeg or tiff attachments, minimum size 1000 x 700 pixels; minimum resolution 300dpi.
