HOTEL staff from Swindon crossed the finish line first in a head to head race on their bikes against colleagues from another county.

On Friday, the team from Jurys Inn challenged staff from their sister hotel, Jurys Inn, Oxford.

The determined Swindon team were not going to let Oxford beat them over the line after the race was waved off by Swindon Mayor, Councillor Eric Shaw and some of the team from the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy team.

Our local team took three and a half hours to complete the 31 mile trip.

Deputy General Manager Rachel Denning said: “We are really excited to be able to support both of these charities. Brighter Future is our chosen local charity who are currently raising money for the Great Western Hospital (GWH) radiotherapy appeal.

“Currently cancer patients have to travel all the way to Oxford for radiotherapy treatment and this is why our team has cycled the same journey to get to experience what a long distance it is to travel.

“Both teams did really well and enjoyed a well-deserved drink at the waiting welcome back parties at both hotels.”

Team members Shauna Deely and Kate Fisher both took part in the race and said they loved every minute of it. Shauna said: “It was an extremely enjoyable experience and was all for great charities. It was hard work but very rewarding.”

The team has held fundraising events in the past including a cake sale. They are aiming to raise more than £1000, they are also intending to make a donation to a homeless charity for young people.
