A TEAM of dancers are hoping to return to Royal Wootton Bassett with worldwide glory after journeying to Jersey to take part in the Dance World Cup.

Marking their first entry into the Dance World Cup, members of Wootton Bassett School of Dance submitted some audition videos to the judges of the competition in November of last year. They then qualified in the senior national group with ten dancers performing a Georgian dance while the juniors came out top in the Hip Hop duet section which has seen them journey to Jersey this week to take part. There they will join more than 3,000 dancers from 33 different countries.

“We were successful in first time of trying and very excited to be representing England this year,” said Kathryn Lawrence, principal of Wootton Bassett School of Dance. “Our dancers aged from 14 to 19 years are all very excited. They have been practicing very hard and rehearsing every week in the last few months.

“They are representing England and competing as a country against all the other countries. Medals are awarded and points given to the first seven places in each section.

“Last year England were fortunate enough to win the overall competition and the cup, with Spain second and Portugal third. The Queen wrote to congratulate the England team and has wished them good luck for this year.

“As a dance school we have fundraised to help cover entry fees, England team tracksuits, travel and other expenses. This has included bag packing, raffles, a quiz night and a cake sale.”
