WOMAD

WOMAD never likes to disappoint and this year organisers have cooked up a fine blend of glorious unknowns and international music royalty. A ticket to the festival is a chance to take a trip around the world in music with bands from New Orleans, Mali, Georgia, Haiti and Vietnam to mention but a few. From new acts from far flung corners of the Earth to seasoned performers, prepare for a raft of artists including John Grant, Les Amazones D’Afrique – an all-girl Afro supergroup – and one of Britain’s finest rappers, Roots Manuva. Now in its 34th year, WOMAD will also play host to groove maestro George Clinton and celebrated Senegalese singer-guitarist Baaba Maal. WOMAD runs from Thursday, July 28, to Sunday 31 at Charlton Park, Malmesbury. Rock ‘n’ Roll’s ultimate knees-up is back with a packed bill of music royalty to beat all previous line-ups. Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to blend cuts from their new album with the classics in a chaotic yet thrilling live show. They will be in good company with Foals, Biffy Clyro, Fall Out Boy and Disclosure as co-headliners. As always, festival-goers will be treated to an eclectic mix of up-and-coming buzz bands alongside established artists. The 1975, Courteeners, Slaves, Eagles Of Death Metal, Fetty Wap and Imagine Dragons will all share big slots across the weekend and Two Door Cinema Club will make their long-awaited return with new music. LARMER TREE 

Man of the moment Tom Odell is poised to serenade crowds under the canopy at the Larmer Tree Festival. The singer-songwriter whose hit Magnetised has earned him swathes of new fans will be joined by a host of top names across the fest’s five stages, including Jamie Cullum, The Stranglers, Calexico and Caro Emerald, Jack Savoretti, Gabrielle Aplin, Afro Celt and Sound System. New for 2016 is The Chase, a stage championing the finest in emerging talent, with Quantic, Sidestepper, Hot 8 Brass Band and This is the Kit already lined up to perform. Tucked into a clearing in the woods with the Shepherd’s Hut bar near at hand, The Hide will host top-notch DJs from Friday to Sunday, for a fantastical dance party. Comedians will also give revellers a sneak preview of their latest routines ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe. Larmer Tree Festival takes place between Thursday, July 13, and Sunday, July 17 near Salisbury. CORNBURY

James Morrison, The Shires and All Saints top the bill at Cornbury Music Festival this year. The family-style festival is held at the Great Tew Estate in Chipping Norton from July 8 to July 10. Cornbury boasts an impressive array of acts with Brian Ferry and Jamie Cullum co-headlining with Seal and Lemar. CROPREDY

Madness will head up the merry band of artists booked to perform at the 35th annual Cropredy Convention. The nutty boys will kick off the festival with a set list of timeless hits from their 35-year career. They join a line-up including Babylon Circus, CoCo and the Butterfields, Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts, Maia, Headspace, Lifesigns, and Dave Pegg and Anthony John Clarke. The festival of folk and rock music is held on the edge of the village of Cropredy, and is run by Fairport Convention. VILLAGE PUMP

You won’t need to walk 500 miles to see them perform in their native land because The Proclaimers are heading to Westbury this month for the Village Pump Folk Festival. Fellow headliners are the Neville Staple Band (formerly of The Specials) and Breabach. Festival-goers can also take their pick of Phillip Henry, Hannah Martin, Martin Simpson, Don Flemons, The Phil Beer Band, O’Hooley and Tidow. The Village Pump Folk Festival will be held at the White Horse Country Park between Friday, July 22, and Sunday 24. REWIND

REWIND South promises to live up to the hype this summer with 14 new acts making their debut at the world’s biggest 80s festival. Acts include Leo Sayer, Lloyd Cole and The Leopards, Living in A Box and The Trevor Horn Band. Horn has produced massive hits for The Buggles, Seal and Grace Jones to name but a few. The weekend will also play host to a number of star-studded gigs featuring Rick Astley, Marc Almond, Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, Heather Small, Jimmy Somerville, The Beat and Tony Hadley performing with a full orchestra. The festival runs from Friday, August 19, to Sunday 21 at Temple Island Meadows in Henley. WRDE UP

A nostalgic trip down memory lane is on the cards in Highworth on July 2 with Dave Finnegan’s Commitments set to front Wrde Up. Dave Finnegan got his break in 1991 landing the part of Mickah Wallace, the crazy drummer-bouncer, in the Commitments Movie, which went on to become a hit worldwide. Dave has shared the stage with Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Edwin Starr and BB King. The line-up also features Freddie Mercury tribute artist The Great Pretender, folk duo Seth Bye & Katie Griffin, Boogie Me, Polar Front, Ukey D’Ukes and Go Moriaty. 2000TREES

Glaswegian Rock band Twin Atlantic will share the main stage with Refused, Mallory Knox, Neck Deep and John Coffey at the award-winning 2000trees. Hey! MARLBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

The quiet market town of Marlborough will be the centre of attention when musicians from no fewer than 21 countries flock to the International Jazz Festival next month. Top-notch artists include Clare Teal, the first jazz performer to appear in the Albert Hall Proms. Top-flight jazz flamenco guitarist, Eduardo Niebla joins the line-up along with The Budapest Ragtime Band, Russian musician Leonid Vinskevitch, Big Man Clayton, Fusion Experience, Chris Jagger, the Red Stripe Band and many more. Marlborough International Jazz Festival takes place from July 15 to July 17.
