POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a serious sexual assault on a woman at a Swindon house.

The victim is receiving support from specialist officers after the attack in the Read/Albion Street area.

Police say the assault was carried out by a man in a property in the area between 4pm and 7pm on Sunday.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his twenties, of stocky build and had unkempt, slightly curly, dark blonde hair. He was wearing a white/black hooded top and black ankle boots.

A local man aged in his twenties has been arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Det Sgt Mark Lewis, of Swindon CID, said: "An investigation is underway and we are treating this report very seriously.

"I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Read or Albion Street on Sunday between 4-7pm who saw or heard anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously.

"I am especially interested in hearing from anyone who saw a man in this location matching the description above.

"Although an arrest has been made, it is very important that anyone with information comes forward as it may be key to our investigation.

“We would also encourage people to be mindful of their personal safety at all times, not just following incidents such as this."
