KYLIE Pike was probably the proudest mum in Swindon as she watched her son Jack escort two young ladies to their school prom on Friday evening.

Until 2014 Jack was unable to walk without the aid of a frame. But on Friday night, the seven-year-old rocked up at the door of the Hilton Hotel for the Nova Hreod prom with a pretty girl on each arm.

Then, having seen them safely inside, he got back in the limo and went home because it was almost his bedtime.

Even though he was too young to join in the party, Yasmin Cooper and Chloe Cockshull asked Jack to be their escort for the biggest night in their social calendar.

And he took his duties very seriously, wearing a crisp white formal shirt and tie and presenting 'his girls' with a corsage each.

Jack suffers from cerebral palsy and the girls, both aged 16, helped his parents and friends raise £32,000 for an operation that enabled him to walk.

The Penhill family’s campaign has been followed and supported by Advertiser readers over the years.

With the help of intense physiotherapy the selective dorsal rhizotomy operation turned the Abbeymeads Primary School pupil from a child who suffered pain and stiffness that prevented him from walking without help, into one who could take part in sports day, play football and ride a bike.

Kylie said: “Yasmin has a boyfriend but she still wanted Jack to escort her. He has been going on and on and on about it. He is so happy bless him.”

“For him to be getting out of the limo, opening the door for them and escorting them into the prom is amazing. I didn’t think I would ever see him doing something like that.”

“When I say to people Jack’s taking two girls to the prom they can’t believe it. Everyone is so proud of him after what he has been through.”

She explained he had been suffering some ill health recently, which had caused him to black out. He had spent some time in hospital and had been referred back to the neurosurgeon in Bristol for the problem to be investigated.

He was sent home from school on Thursday following a blackout but was determined not to miss his big night.

When he got up the next morning he told his mum firmly: “I’m not poorly, I’ve got to go to Yasmin and Chloe's prom.”
