A MAN who was arrested twice in one month for being drunk and disorderly was sentenced to a community order at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Michael Sheehan, of Croft Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of being drunk and disorderly in a public place on May 31 and June 28 this year.

The 21-year-old also admitted failing to surrender to police custody.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said police had been called to the Jury’s Inn Hotel, Fleming Way at around 1.30am on May 31 to reports of two males fighting.

“The two men were lying on the floor in the entrance of the hotel. One of the men was being treated by paramedics then became abusive and was taken out of the ambulance," said Mr Ballinger.

"He then walked into the road. He was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.”

The court heard that, on June 28, Sheehan was arrested again after he was seen shouting outside a property in Raleigh Avenue.

“This is his mother’s address. He refuses to calm down despite being told to. Officers arrested him again for being drunk and disorderly,” said Mr Ballinger.

David Gosling, defending, said Sheehan was remorseful for his actions and was now staying at a hostel.

“He accepts that he just got out of sync. He has been keeping his private life under control,” he said.

Sentencing, chairman of the bench, Viv Street said: “We are going to impose a community order as we are concerned about the level of alcohol that you seem to be consuming.

“The community order will last for nine months and include 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

“You will pay an £85 victim surcharge and court costs of £40.”
