BIG egos, big guitar solos and even bigger hair… welcome to Rock of Ages.

Set in the 80s, the musical follows the crew at the Bourbon Room where the liquor flows freely with lycra, lace and legendary rock served on tap.

Amid the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to storm the stage as the next big thing. Enter Sherrie, a young woman with stars in her eyes fresh off the bus from Kansas. She too aspires to greater things in the industry someday.

But the rock and roll fairy-tale looks likely to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Sunset Strip into just another capitalist mall. Can Drew, Sherrie and the gang save the Strip, and themselves, before it’s too late?

Featuring classic rock anthems from Journey, Foreigner, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Europe, Styx and Pat Benatar, the jukebox story of a small-town girl and city boy following their dreams on LA’s rock n’ roll Strip captured audiences and critics imaginations when it hit Broadway in 2009. It went on to be nominated for five Tony Awards. Rock of Ages had its West End premiere at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2011.

The following year it was adapted into a movie with an all-star cast including Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.

Don your best 80s rock outfit, ruffle your hair, and practice your air guitar moves: this new production by Chocolate Theatre is bound to take you on a journey.

Rock of Ages runs at the Arts Centre until Saturday. Tickets are £15.50. To book go to swindontheatres.co.uk or call 01793 524481.
