North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson was the guest speaker at the Swindon Chamber of Commerce business lunch last week, just one day before he found out he had lost his Cabinet position as Minister for Disabled People.

Mr Tomlinson lost his role as part of the new Prime Minister’s government reshuffle. He was not initially a backer of Mrs May, voting for former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Stephen Crabb, in the first round of the contest. He did, however, put his support behind her after Mr Crabb chose to exit the process.

After the announcement, Mr Tomlinson said he had been was proud to champion disabled people and was able to focus on fulfilling opportunity, potential and as a result more than 365,000 more disabled people were in work.

"Visits, meetings, debates, speeches and most of all the amazing, were the inspirational people I have met,” he said. “I loved every minute."

Last week’s Chamber lunch was sponsored by Barclays Bank and hosted by the Marriott Hotel in Swindon. Thirty leading Swindon businessmen and women were the guests of the Swindon Chamber.

In September, South Swindon MP Robert Buckland will be the guest speaker of the Chamber at a lunch again sponsored by Barclays.

Mr Buckland has been asked by the new Prime Minister to carry on in his role of Solicitor General, Mr Buckland was appointed to the position in July 2014 - he is the deputy to the Attorney General and acts as an advisor to the Crown departments and the Cabinet on issues of law.

Mr Buckland was an early supporter of Theresa May when she announced her candidacy for the leadership of the Conservative Party.
