BRIMBLE Hill School leavers were given a luxury stretch limo send off at the end of term.

The 17 youngsters were treated to rides in the car as part of a special day of celebration.

Head teacher Alison Paul said: “Our children don’t do things like proms. Those sort of things are really difficult to cope with. But the trip in the limo was really special.

“The look on their faces was unbelievable. The excitement, a lot of them didn’t want to get out. They really enjoyed it. It was the pinnacle of the day for them."

She added: "It was really nice for the children to have something special for their last day.”

Owner of Layton’s Limos, Jason Ranford said: “Just seeing the kids’ faces was amazing. If we could do this every day we would. You can’t describe how excited the kids were. I felt privileged that they asked me.”

The limo rides were just part of celebration for the leavers who are moving on to secondary school.

Mrs Paul said: “I think it is really important that they have the opportunity to follow the same path as children in mainstream studies and that at 11 they have an opportunity to leave and go to secondary school.”

The day included a special graduation assembly where the children wore caps and gowns. They were presented with certificates of achievement along with personal folders staff had put together containing photos of their time at the school, pieces of their work and other mementoes.

Three members of staff at the special school, assistant head Julie Gregory, senior teacher Paul Searle and office manager Pauline Eggleton, also said goodbye after a combined service to the school of almost 90 years.
