SET sail with Odysseus on his homeward-bound journey in a new version of Homer's tale written and performed by Prime Youth Theatre.

Reimagined for a contemporary audience, The Odyssey is set in an alternative universe where war has destroyed technology and soldiers have resorted to hand-to-hand combat. The epic tale of loss, love and perseverance, is told through the eyes of Penelope, Telemachus, Athena, Odysseus and his crew as they grapple to find their place in the world in the aftermath of the Trojan War and take responsibility for their actions.

The Odyssey is directed by Aaron Parsons as part of the troupe’s 30th anniversary celebration.

"It is the first production ever to be written by members of Prime Youth Theatre and involves over 30 members aged eight to 19," said the associate director at Prime. "The play brings to life a whole range of gods, heroes and monsters and amongst Odysseus’s many adventures there’s humour, sadness and terror - something for everybody.”

Prime Theatre is a charity based at the Wyvern Theatre and runs weekly workshops and performance projects for young actors, writers, technicians. Youth Theatre members are encouraged develop performance and theatre-making skills, grow in confidence, work as a team and have fun.

The Odyssey runs until tomorrow at the Swindon Arts Centre. Tickets are £12.50. To book call 01793 524 481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
