THE opening of a new store in Old Town on Saturday came as music to the ears of vinyl lovers.

Family owned RPM Records, in Devizes Road, cut the ribbon on Saturday as guests were treated to drinks, cakes and live music, as well as all the vinyl they could ever dream of.

Husband and wife Gregg Miszkowski and Karrie Miszkowska, both 30, are very passionate about vinyl records, which have made an astonishing come back in recent years, and are confident their business will boom.

Karrie said: “We have always wanted to do something related to vinyl and music and we thought the time was right to come to Old Town and open a shop.

“I’m very nervous and the whole thing feels very surreal, but it’s incredibly exciting. I’m sure we can make a name for ourselves and attract plenty of people to Old Town.”

The couple, who live in Liden, have a nine-year-old daughter and Gregg intends to run the shop full time while Karrie, who works in HR, will be there at weekends.

RPM describe themselves as passionate about supporting local artists in the South West and live music was provided by DJs and musicians Jack Moore, DJ Para, DJ Mike Flay and 2 Sick Monkeys.

Nick Pidlisnyj, a former colleague of Gregg’s, said: “I’m into vinyl and it’s great to have a shop like this that caters for a specialist market with local people running it.

“Hopefully it’ll be good for Old Town and it’ll bring people in who are looking for something you don’t usually get on the high street.”

Aaron Kerrigan, who provided the sound equipment, said: “It’s about time we finally got something focused on vinyl as a whole because it’s a media that’s making a comeback at the moment.

“Being a vinyl enthusiast myself I think it really makes sense to have something like this in Swindon and I’m sure it’ll be really popular.”

Browsing the records, Jonathan Muirhead, 38, of Queens Drive, said: “I think it’s wonderful. I don’t have a record player myself but I love music, so I thought I’d come to see what it’s all about.

“The shop seems to have a really nice atmosphere and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. I hope they do well and are here for many years to come.”

Gregg, a former St Joseph’s student, previously worked as a warehouse manager for an events company and has a degree in popular music and record production from Southampton Solent University.

Due to health reasons, former Dorcan student Karrie had to give up training to be a midwife and currently works in HR during the week.

The store is open Monday to Fridays 10am to 7pm, Saturdays 9am to 7pm and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
