FLEETWOOD Town manager Steven Pressley has resigned from his role at Highbury after just nine months in charge of the League One club.

The announcement comes just 10 days before the start of the new season on Saturday, August 6, when Fleetwood travel to newly-promoted Northampton Town.

“The decision was made this morning (Tuesday) following a meeting,” read a statement on the club website.

“It was agreed it would be best to take the club in a different direction.”

  • BRADFORD City manager Stuart McCall has made his seventh signing of the summer by bringing in midfielder Romain Vincelot for an undisclosed fee from Coventry City.

The 30-year-old Frenchman has penned a two-year deal at Valley Parade, having spent last year with the Sky Blues, scoring four goals in 46 appearances.

  • CHARLTON Athletic have brought in former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Andrew Crofts on a one-year deal after the 32-year-old impressed on a pre-season tour of Austria.

Crofts, who has 28 caps for Wales, was released by the Seagulls this summer after making 75 appearances during a four-year spell at the Amex.

Meanwhile, the Addicks have lost two goalkeepers, with Stephen Henderson joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer while Marko Dmitrovic has joined Spanish side AD Alcorcon.

  • COVENTRY City manager Tony Mowbary has promised that more new faces are imminent, with the Sky Blues enduring a quieter summer than Town.

So far, strikers Kwame Thomas and Marvin Sordell are the only players to come through the door at the Ricoh Arena, while Marcus Tudgay and former Swindon loanee Sam Ricketts have both agreed new deals.

“We’re still a long way off having a team I’d like to start with,” 52-year-old Mowbray told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

“We have to be patient and we can’t build our team on loans this year.”

  • FORMER Swindon Town midfielder Michael Timlin is set to miss the start of the season with Southend United as he struggles with a hamstring strain.

The 31-year-old will be out for up to six weeks after picking up the injury in a pre-season friendly with West Ham United.

  • CHED Evans showed no sign of ring rust as he scored for Chesterfield in his first match in four years.

The 27-year-old, who was sent to prison in 2012 for raping a 19-year-old woman before having his conviction quashed in April, has signed a one-year deal with the Spireites and netted in a 3-0 pre-season friendly against Ilkeston.
