FIRE fighters came to the rescue of a stricken cat stuck on a Taw Hill roof yesterday.(JULY 26)

The ginger cat and its would-be rescuer became trapped on the roof of a house in Lavinia Walk just after 6pm. Fire fighters immediately sprang into action to bring the cat and man safely down.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had used an unusual method to get the cat down.

"When we got there (crews from Stratton, Westlea and Swindon), the man had got himself down but the cat was still there. So we 'coaxed' it down with a hose reel jet as we didn't want anyone trying another rescue."

An onlooker, who wished to remain anonymous said the cat had made it safely back to the ground after around 14 hours,

"After around 10 minutes the cat went over the top and successfully got down to cheering children and parents."
