A BRADON Forest schoolgirl has lost 40cms from her hair and is now sporting a 2mm close shave in a bid to raise funds for a World Challenge Expedition to Morocco next summer.

Carla-Mai Redshaw's big shave took place at The Fox and Hounds, Haydon Wick, with her family and friends cheering her on.

She and 12 other students from the school are hoping to raise the £1,750 fee each for the trip with independent and team fundraisers, without relying on hand outs from their parents.

The 14-year-old has already brought in £1,100 with more donations due.

The developmental programme, managed by organisers World Challenge Expeditions, will encourage the students to learn about responsibility, leadership, planning, teamwork and both physical and emotional challenges.

The expedition is aimed at providing an experience which places students in a strong position to make the most of their future careers.

In the summer of 2017 the team will depart for Morocco accompanied by a teacher and a World Challenge Leader who is responsible for ensuring the safety of the team.

We will alternate roles such as leader, accountant, cook, health and safety officer and transport coordinator to operate efficiently as a team.

During the two weeks away they will also complete a trek and a community project as well as enjoy rest and relaxation phases with the detail of the itinerary being created by the students themselves over the forthcoming months.

"We are particularly focusing our efforts on the project phase to ensure we contribute to the needs of the community as much as possible, this will include either renovating a local school, establishing a clean water supply or working on conservation," said Carla who donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer.
