One of Swindon's best known, homegrown musicians, David Marx, has flitted around the world working as far afield as America, Germany and France and this weekend he is back in his home town.

The singer/songwriter spends his time crossing the Channel between his home in Toulouse and playing around the UK. There are have been many incarnations of the David Marx band including The Refugees which had a revolving door of the cream of Swindon musicians in its line-up, including the late Kevin Wilkinson, drummer with Squeeze and The Waterboys, and Barry Andrews former XTC keyboard player.

David's current band is the AK Poets with another local luminary Pat Luszcz on bass guitar.

David will be playing at an acoustic gig from 3pm on Saturday at the Band Stand in the Old Town Gardens.

The musician is always on a mission either politically, musically or rescuing those in trouble.

David was one of those who ran mercy missions to Bosnia and Croatia, he was the mastermind behind Swindon's Kosovaid concert, to help those caught in the horrors of war in what was the former Yugoslavia, he cycled across Cuba for charity and undertook a charity run to Paris, organised various concerts including Rockotal, for Swindon's twin town of Ocotal in Nicaragua.

He has had a number of brushes with the famous including supporting Christy Moore, The Psychedelic Furs and working with Garry Tallent, bass player with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

Another side of David is his literary aspirations, he studied at Keele University and during his time in the States became arts editor for the Atlanticville magazine and he still has his own book review site.

David has had a number of recordings including LoveJunk and My Crucial Execution and now has an EP called The Ghosts of Corelli. He will be playing a mix of songs, old favourites and new offerings in the open air gigon Saturday in Swindon. It is free entry. - Flicky Harrison
