WITH blood pouring from his head a man punched a bus and a pay phone before dropping his shorts and waving his genitals around, a court has heard.

Members of the public spotted 28-year-old Christopher White in the bus station shortly after 8.30pm on July 19 in a drunken state with blood running down his face from a head injury.

On Wednesday afternoon White, currently of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assaulting a police officer when he came before the bench at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates heard from crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger that after punching the pay phone and then a bus - neither of which caused any damage - White began shouting and swearing loudly, causing passengers waiting at the bus station to give him a wide berth.

Reading a witness statement from a man who was at the bus station at the time of the incident Mr Ballinger added: “He was described as staggering around.

"He then dropped his shorts, exposing his genitals and began waving it around. Upon seeing a police officer he pulled up his shorts.”

Arresting him, the officer handcuffed White who then fell to the floor, pretending to collapse.

As officers tried to get him back on his feet he kicked out at the arresting officer, making contact with his arm with one of his legs, although his defence argued he had not deliberately intended to kick the officer, but had been kicking out recklessly.

After sleeping off the effects of the alcohol White was interviewed and told the police that he had no recollection of events at the bus station as he had been drinking since the previous day and had not slept. He had also taken a codeine-based drug to treat his sciatica.

He also admitted to breaching his post sentence supervision order.

His defence, Mark Glendenning told the court that his client apologised to all members of the public who had witnessed his behaviour.

He added: “The assault on the officer was effectively a reckless assault by a drunken man thrashing about stupidly.”

Chairman of the bench Deborah Couzens told White he would be fined £80 for the drunk and disorderly charge and ordered he pay £60 compensation to the officer he had kicked.

He was fined a further £50 for breaching his post sentence supervision order and told to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
