A SWINDON man who fell seriously ill with suspected blood poisoning while on holiday in Bulgaria has died.

Michael Doyle, 29, took a turn for the worse last night and this morning tragically died in hospital with his mum Mandy, dad John and friend Vince Conti by his side.

His brother Marcus was flying home from Bulgaria at the time and the family waited until he landed back in the UK to break the devastating news to him and his sisters Libby and Michaela.

They have thanked the doctors in Bulgaria for doing all they could to try and save Michael after his condition rapidly started to deteriorate.

“His organs gave up,” said heartbroken friend Vince, who has been by Michael’s side throughout.

“I believed he would be alright. Up until two days ago he was settled, he was in a critical condition and kept going hot and cold but he was settled and talking and had colour in his cheeks.

“But last night we got to a call to come up and we knew he wasn’t good. When I saw him we went in and we knew, it was like a concrete block had been thrown in my face.

“He had the dialysis last night and his kidneys just shut down. They spent 35 minutes trying to bring him back.

“We couldn’t stay all night because he was in the intensive care unit and we went in two by two.

“His mum and dad are completely devastated. Even the doctor was crying.

“We have still got to fly him home and it won’t be until after he has his autopsy on Monday or Tuesday.”

Michael, from Pinehurst, flew out to Bulgaria to the coastal resort of Sunny Beach with his friends on July 24.

But just four days in to their summer break he was hospitalised after experiencing abdominal pains for around two or three days that gradually got worse.

He underwent six operations and on Friday night had five hours of dialysis.

An appeal was also launched this week to try and raise the £30,000 to fly Michael back home to continue receiving treatment in the UK as it was not covered in his travel insurance.

Now the money will be used to repatriate his body and his family still desperately need as much as possible to cover the costs.

Vince added: “He lived life to the full. He knew right from wrong and would do anything for anyone.

“He was a good lad and a credit to his mum and dad.

“I took him into the hospital and stayed by his side and was always checking the monitors and speaking to him. It’s been a three week roller-coaster.”
