VETS, lawyers and engineers are all in the making at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy as students received their A-Level results.

They had a nail biting wait all morning but there was relief and choruses of congratulations before a trip to the pub to celebrate as many found out they had got the grades to go to university.

First through the door at 8.30am was Emma Blackburn who was beaming from ear to ear when she found out she received three A*s in law, business studies and politics.

The 18-year-old is heading to the University of Birmingham to study business management in September.

“I’m overwhelmed,” she said. “I was so nervous coming to pick up my results. My revision went well but my results are more than I could ever have hoped for.

“My mum is so happy and I will be going for a drink to celebrate.”

Max Luffman, 18, was another to arrive early and achieved two As and a B in law, business studies and English language.

“I’m really happy,” he said. “It was what I was predicted. I didn’t think the exam went awful, the business one was more difficult than I thought but English which is my best subject went really well.

“I’m going to be going to Aston University in Birmingham to study business management.”

Meanwhile another student over the moon with his results was Daniel Irving whose university place rested on him getting an A in maths to study electronic and electrical engineering at Bristol University. His other results included a B in electronics and a C in physics.

“I’ve done it,” the 18-year-old said. “I’m absolutely amazed. I hoped but didn’t think I would be able to do it."

There was also lots of hugs for budding lawyer Charlotte Mantell, 18, who was joined by her father and sister as she collected her results.

She achieved an A* in English and two As in history and chemistry and will be heading to Bristol University in September to study law.

“I’m surprised, nervous and I still feel it’s not real,” she said. “The chemistry exam was particularly hard so I am so happy I thought I was going to get a B."

Rosie Bevan, 18, will be off to Cambridge University in September to study veterinary medicine after getting the crucial results she needed.

She achieved three A*s in biology, chemistry and maths, as well as an A in history and has aspirations to become a vet. She is also the first member of her family to go to the prestigious university.

Another student joining her at Cambridge University is Lin Bowker-Lonnecker who will be studying engineering. She achieved two A*s and an A in sociology, English literature, and government and politics.

Dan Foster was also delighted with his A* and two As in maths, further maths and physics and will be studying maths at Bristol University.

The 18-year-old said: “I’m really pleased and excited.”

While Rebecca Loveday, 18, got better results than she expected after achieving an A* in maths and two As in physics and R.E. She will be studying psychology and physics at Bristol University.

“I’m over the moon,” she said. “I’m off to play mini golf to celebrate.”

Aliya Jannaty, 18, also scooped three As, Anant Mane, 17, achieved an A*, B and a C and Ellie James, 18, got two As and an A*.

Sarah Vaughan, head of Year 13, said: “These are the best results we have had for the past four years but we are not surprised as they are an exceptional year – very determined and bright.

“We have got 117 in the year, 73 are going to university and a handful will go through clearing.

“If they haven’t got the results they hoped for we will sit with them and sort it out today or they can come back and we will support them.”
