A TEENAGER has been arrested following an assault on a man in his thirties last week.

The 17-year-old boy from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of causing greivous bodily harm following the town centre assault on a 36-year-old man from Swindon during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The teenage has since been released on conditional bail.

The incident happened around 12.20am on Tuesday, August 16, on the path which runs from Wharf Green to Cambria Bridge Road.

The man suffered serious head injuries in the assault and is in a critical but stable condition in Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

Det Insp Simon Childe said Wiltshire Police were still seeking witnesses to the assault to come forward.

He said: "If anyone heard or saw anything suspicious on this path at this time, please contact me to help with our enquiries.

"Understandably, incidents like this will cause concern amongst the local community. I would like to reassure residents that crimes like these are not that common and we are conducting a thorough and robust investigation in to the incident."
