A MAN faces a community order after he admitted assaulting a man and breaking one of his windows.

Karl Goodwin, 28, of Allington Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting the man on July 23 and also causing £100-worth of damage to a window belonging to the victim.

The bench sitting at Swindon Magistrates' Court imposed a 12-month community order on Goodwin, during which time he must complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim and £85 Crown Prosecution Service costs along with an £85 victim surcharge.

An 18-year-old man has walked out of court with a bill of more than £500 after he admitted damaging property belonging to a housing association.

Paul Bell-Hodges, currently of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offence dating from July 20 when he came before the bench at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that Bell-Hodges had damaged a wall mirror, two chests of drawers and a wall heater belonging to Stonewater Housing Association.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £541 to the association and also £40 to the Crown Prosecution Service for the cost of bringing the matter to court. No victim surcharge was imposed due to the defendant having no means to pay, and the magistrates told him that compensation must take priority.

A MAN has been fined after he admitted committing a public order offence.

Mark Bailey, 44, currently of Harding Street, pleaded guilty to the offence of using threatening or abusive language or behaviour in Swindon on July 23 when he came before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

The bench imposed a fine of £40 and ordered he pay £40 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service as well as a £30 victim surcharge.

He also admitted breaching a two year conditional discharge imposed by Dorset magistrates in June for an offence of assault by beating, but no further penalty was imposed for the breach.

A driver will appear before magistrates sitting in Swindon next month charged with being behind the wheel of his car while above the drink-drive limit.

Balwinder Dhillon, 54, of Hatch Road, Stratton St Margaret, is accused of driving an 11-plate Mazda 6 on Gipsy Lane on July 23 when he had 71mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Magistrates adjourned proceedings until September 9 for a GP report to be prepared on the defendant. In the meantime he remains on unconditional bail.
