EVERY little helps for Rio-bound Stephanie Millward as she looks to gain a last-gasp funding boost before her latest Paralympic Games quest gets up and running.

The 34-year-old Corsham star has entered the final few weeks of her pre-tournament preparations, with Millward and the rest of Great Britain’s 31-strong swimming squad, which includes Trowbridge’s Aaron Moores, heading to London for a holding camp on Saturday, August 27 before flying to Brazil on Thursday, September 1.

Millward, who normally lives in Box but has been based in Manchester since October last year in order to train at the Manchester Aquatics Centre – the British Para-Swimming National Performance Centre – is due to compete in as many as seven events and will begin her Rio campaign in the S8 400m freestyle on Thursday, September 8.

But before she jets off to South America in search of more Paralympic medals to add to the five that she won at London 2012, Millward is hoping to continue supporting her efforts financially through a Crowdfunding campaign.

With the help of Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP), the Wiltshire Paralympian has been accepting donations to help with the likes of transport, travel, accommodation, equipment and competition costs and says that she massively appreciates every piece of support sent her way.

“I do get a little bit of funding from the National Lottery and I also get some from Wiltshire Council but everything helps and it goes a long way,” said Millward.

“I had a little bit of a bad year last year because my funding was cut, so I have to count the pennies because it costs so much to be able to compete.

“I try and do as much as I can to support people, which is why I visit a lot of schools and things like that, and every little helps.

“At the moment, I’m paying two rents, which makes things difficult, and I’m looking forward to getting back to Box so that I’ll only be paying one.”
