MOST people tend to lean towards either the arts or the sciences, but it is a particularly impressive feat for someone to excel in both.

But that's exactly what 16-year-old Sam Farmer did. The talented all-rounder is celebrating after securing four A*s, seven As, a B and a C.

Sam, from Highworth Warneford School, couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she revealed her results.

“The waiting was fine for most of the summer, but this week has been hard," she said.

“I didn’t sleep at all last night, I was up and waiting to find out.”

Asked about her favourite subjects, Sam said: “The ones I most enjoy are music and drama, the one I was most confident in is chemistry.”

Sam’s confidence was justified as she walked away with an A*, but now that she has proven herself in the academic stakes she is setting her sights on something a more creative future.

She said: “I can’t imagine not performing – I’m going to New College hopefully to do A Level drama and a BTEC in performing arts.”

Sam was not the only star turn at Highworth Warneford.

Her classmate Bradley walked away with a staggering nine A*s, three As and a B while Joseph Holt got an impressive seven A*s, four As, a B and a C.

The staff were delighted with the strong progress made across the whole year.

Over 80 per cent of pupils achieved at least a C grade in English language with 97 per cent achieving the standard in English literature.

The head teacher, John Saunders, said, “We are very pleased with this year’s results, particularly in English.

“These outstanding results reflect the hard work of the pupils and the staff as well as the excellent support we receive from parents and governors.

“We are very pleased for the successes of all of our pupils and wish them well in the future.”
