AFTER find indecent images of children on her husband’s phone a woman confided in her counsellor who called in the police.

And when officers seized and investigated a man's home-built computer in mid-March last year they found 3,257 images and ten videos - all classed as category C.

Richard Crewe, 42, came before magistrates sitting in Swindon on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to possessing the indecent images.

The court heard from crown prosecutor Nick Barr that on March 11, 2015 Crewe’s wife had confided in her Old Town counsellor that she had found a number of indecent images on her husband’s phone, which prompted the counsellor to contact the police.

“She disclosed that she had seen some images and that she had taken a screenshot of them,” said Mr Barr.

“Police attended his home address and arrest him on a charge of possession of a number of indecent images. They seized a computer and a Galaxy phone.

"In interview he declined legal advice and spoke candidly. He stated he had an interest in girls over the age of 13, but maintained he had no physical interest in sex with girls of that age.”

He explained the images had been downloaded through a file-sharing site, and some of the images depicted girls between the age of eight and 13.

His defence, Terence McCarthy, urged the magistrates to seek a pre-sentence report from the probation service before proceeding to sentence Crew, of Mannington Park.

Chairman of the bench Jonathan Chappell adjourned proceedings for a report to be prepared on Crewe. He was conditionally bailed.
