RESIDENTS fighting a bid by a company to build a renewable energy centre near South Marston that could handle 150,000 tonnes of waste a year are getting together this weekend.
The meeting at Grange Leisure Centre from 2pm on Sunday, is for people opposed to the controversial proposal which was revealed earlier this year.
Rolton Kilbride and the Keypoint Industrial Estate landowners Legal and General Property are behind the scheme that would take waste non-recyclable waste and convert it into electricity by heating it to create gases that power turbines.
South Marston Parish Council is opposing the bid, calling for the company to investigate the impact on human health of pollutants released by the process.
It is also concerned about the effect of the development on the surrounding landscape and the increased flood risk.
