ORGANISERS of the Great North Swindon Fun Day are looking forward to their annual event this Saturday and are hoping it will be the best yet.

This year’s event will support the local Butterflies Family Centre, a charity offering support for children of five years old and under as well as their families and carers.

The popular event will get started at 1pm at Brook Park opposite Isambard School.

Anyone planning to come along would be well advised to skip lunch as there will be food offers aplenty including a pig roast, German bratwurst, freshly made donuts and Bob’s ‘amazing’ brownies.

For those in search of a beverage or two they will have the choice of fresh coffee from the Coffee Gang boys or a cold Corn Dolly, proudly brewed by local residents Ian and Anthony of the Three Castle Brewery.

Organiser, Suzi Gatward, said: “We are lucky this year to have such great sponsors. We would like to thank Crest Homes, and our two local councils - Blunsdon and Haydon Wick - without them the day would not be possible.”

More than thirty local stands will be offering everything from advice to adrenaline rushes.

Local MP Justin Tomlinson will be challenging all comers to take him on at table football and Andy Browne of Swindon Reptile Rescue will be getting pulses racing with his selection of snakes.

For the adventurous among you there will be martial arts, boxing and even bungee jumping.

And for those looking for a slightly more relaxing experience, the well known children’s author Neil Griffiths can be found at the Butterflies stand.

Well known showman George Scarrott will be bringing his famous tot’s teacup ride and for anyone who prefers their tea cup with milk and sugar look no further than the WI stand.

A variety of local music acts will grace the sound stage throughout the day and for the first time, a collection of restored and heritage vehicles, as well as one or two big American beasts, will provide a stunning backdrop for the event.

Organiser John Stooke said: “We think there really is something for everyone. We are still looking for one or two more stewards to pitch in on the day, so do give me a call on 07836 609369 if you think you could help even at this very late stage.”
