A Swindon choir is holding an open rehearsal to recruit new singers.

Swindon Male Voice Choir is a group of singers that enjoy competing in local and national competitions, notching up their first win in 1924 in the National Eisteddfod in Newport, South Wales.

Since then armfuls of trophies have come home to Swindon including last year when the choir competed in the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts, where they scooped first prize in the Male Voice Choir section.

Alan Fisher from the choir said: "We were delighted with this, and it stood us in good stead for our annual tour to Jersey where we performed in two charity concerts.''

No one watching the film Zulu can fail to be moved by the powerful rendering of Men of Harlech showing that male voice choirs have their own style, their own sound and are a vocal band of brothers.

The Swindon choir's open rehearsal is on Monday, September 12 from 7.30pm.

Alan said: "If you want to enjoy a new experience of singing in a top quality choir whilst making new friends and raising money for charity then join us. We would love to welcome you to our open rehearsal.''

The singers rehearse every Monday in the New Century Club, Gorse Hill from 7.30pm.

One of the main aims of the choir is to raise cash for charity and last year the Swindon singers raised £800 for Parkinson's UK by performing in a joint concert along with the Fairford Ladies Choir.
