A FORMER Wickes assistant manager will stand trial accused of stealing £70,000 from his employer.

Eamonn Burns, 31, of Webbs Wood, Peatmoor is charged with committing fraud by abusing his position as assistant manager between January 1 and December 31, 2015.

It is alleged that he removed cash from the business through fraudulent bank transactions to his personal bank account to the value of £70,000.

Magistrates sitting in Swindon adjourned proceedings for trial at Swindon Crown Court on September 23.

In the meantime he remains on unconditional bail.

A man will stand trial later this month accused of making a series of movies and images of children and possessing images depicting extreme pornography featuring animals.

Magistrates sitting in Swindon declined jurisdiction for the case of 55-year-old Fernando Freitas of Hawthorn Avenue, ordering that the matter be sent to the crown court.

Freitas is charged with making five category A movies and two category A images of a child between December 14, 2014 and February 10, 2015. He faces further charges of making one category B movie and three category B images and four category C movies and six category C images of children between the same dates.

He is also being prosecuted for possessing 266 extreme pornographic images.

The magistrates ordered he stand trial at Swindon Crown Court on September 23. In the meantime he was released on conditional bail not to have any contact with children under the age of 16 in public or private without the supervision of a responsible adult.

Facing charges of a racially aggravated assault and possessing an offensive weapon a man will now stand trial.

Benjamin Hope-Pemberton, 29, of Yarrow Close, is charged with assaulting a man by beating during the racially aggravated incident on June 16, which he denies.

He also entered a not guilty plea to a charge of possessing a claw hammer on Bridge Street on June 16.

Magistrates ordered the matter be heard at Swindon Crown Court where Hope-Pemberton will stand trial on September 23. He was released on conditional bail not to contact the complainant or go to Bridge Street.

After pleading guilty to two charges of theft a woman has been handed a conditional discharge.

Lisa Rudman, 32, of Netherton Close, admitted stealing £57.96 worth of cosmetics from Boots on Tuesday, August 2 and £85.50 of clothing from Primark on the same date.

Magistrates sitting in Swindon imposed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered she pay a victim surcharge of £20 and £40 to the Crown Prosecution Service. The items were recovered.

A woman who made off with around £1,500 worth of goods from M&S has been ordered to repay just a third of that in compensation.

Charlene Wesley, 27, of Pinehurst Road, appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to stealing make-up, jewellery, nail polishes, tanning products, ladies’ boots, a handbag and numerous other similar cosmetic items thought to be valued at about £1,500.

Sentencing her, the magistrates imposed a six-month community order during which she must complete 25 rehabilitation activity days. She must also pay £520 compensation to M&S.

Found in possession of both class A and B drugs a man has walked out of court with a conditional discharge.

Peter Wheeler, 45, of Torrington Court pleaded guilty to three charges of possession when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged with possession of a quantity of the class A drug diamorphine on April 26 along with class B substances amphetamine and cannabis.

The bench imposed a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered that he pay a victim surcharge of £20 and £40 towards the Crown Prosecution Service’s costs of bringing the matter to trial. They also ordered the destruction of the drugs.

A man has been ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work after he admitted assaulting another man.

Lee Crook, 29, of Saltash Road, pleaded guilty to the offence of assault by beating on July 27 when he came before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

He further pleaded guilty to damaging a car window belonging to the same man on the same day.

The bench imposed a 12 month community order on Crook and ordered that he carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the community and pay the victim £244 compensation. He must further pay a victim surcharge of £85 and £85

A man has been convicted of assaulting a woman and damaging her TV at trial, despite denying the allegations.

Francesco Masi, 46, of Fitwell Road, was found guilty of assaulting the woman on December 2, 2015 and damaging a TV belonging to her on December 10, 2015. He entered pleas of not guilty to both charges when he came before magistrates sitting in Swindon in March, but was found guilty at trial on July 27.

Masi will appear before magistrates sitting in Swindon on September 7 to be sentenced for the matters.
