KIDS and grown-ups came together on Monday morning to witness the unveiling of a brand new nursery.

Lainesmead Primary School, in South View Avenue, declared its nursery officially open and South Swindon MP Robert Buckland cut the ribbon.

Eirian Painter, head teacher at Lainesmead, said: “We decided to turn our existing preschool, Shining Stars, into a nursery in light of the government’s plan to introduce 30 hours of free child care.

“We have long had an ambition to open a nursery and we are very excited about the future. The plan now is to grow and expand the nursery as much as we possibly can.

“All the parents who came to the opening were very pleased and were amazed with the transformation. And we were very lucky to have Robert Buckland cut the ribbon.

“The children will naturally move from the nursery to our reception class, which will make the whole process much easier because they will be familiar with the school and the adults who work there.”

Robert Buckland MP said: “I was honoured to make another visit to Lainesmead to open the new nursery, which is now a direct part of the school and which has new and improved facilities for the youngsters.

“As I talked with staff and parents today and recalled my experiences as a parent with young children, it is clear that early learning is a vital part of child development.

“I share Lainesmead’s ambitions to provide even more facilities as the Government’s plan to provide 30 hours free child care is rolled out in the coming few years.”

Karen Flower, Swindon Borough Council’s early year’s advisor, also attended to welcome the new children and spend time in the new facility.

The nursery will have two sessions a day, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, and consists of children from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

There is also ramp access for those children who have mobility problems.
