A 21-year-old who was caught with a sharpened screwdriver two days after he stabbed a man has been warned he could be facing jail.

Melvin Chuaga plunged the blade into Scott Cadder during an incident outside Milverton Court, Park North, on Wednesday September 9.

And when he was arrested in The Parade on the following Friday he was found to have the pointed tool on him.

Chuaga had been due to face trial by jury after pleading not guilty to a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

But after he admitted unlawful wounding and having a bladed article prosecutors said they would not seek a trial on the more serious charge.

At an earlier hearing he admitted having an asp, which he hit 29-year-old Mr Cadder with, causing actual bodily harm.

Recorder Anna Midgley adjourned the case to Friday, October 7, and released Chuaga, of Stanley Street, Old Town, on conditional bail.

But she warned him: "You should not be under any illusions that the most likely sentence will be a custodial sentence of some kind."
