IT only comes around once every four years, and this weekend the organisers of the Highworth Festival are ensuring the finale is one to remember.

The bunting is already up, and residents have already been enjoying a jam-packed programme of events from everything including a performance from bassoon quartet Reed Rage to pavement astronomy sessions.

With a theme of youth and technology, this year’s committee have staged quizzes, technology days and family fun days to bring the community together – and it has all been building up to this weekend’s main events.

“We have had a very successful season and we have had some really great audiences at some great events,” said Highworth Festival chairman Jim Webster. “The idea overall is to enhance the social and cultural aspects of the town and give people the opportunity to get out and meet other people and enjoy some wonderful events. If we finish up having raised some funds for all of the local groups involved then it has been a great event all round.

“The bunting is up and now we are just hoping for some fine weather.”

Events will kick off tomorrow at 9.15am with a performance from Highworth Silver Band at the podium. The Lucas Jet Circus Show will begin at 10.05am and be followed at 10.30am by Collingwood’s Contraptions Presents Slightly Dubious Science. Kid Carpet Presents will take to the stage from 10.50am before Simeon Kiola from Team Power Stilts will make everyone look skyward from 11.35am.

The Suitcase Sound System will follow then Music Alive along with Sound Scape will put in a performance from 12.20pm.

Second performances of the Lucas Jet Circus Show and Slightly Dubious Science will fill the early part of the afternoon ahead of the Grand Parade from Westrop School at 2.45pm.

The raffle will follow at 4pm before the evening of live music kicks in from 5.30pm until 9.30pm. Joining headline acts Overload, Charlie Ann Bradfield and Hangfire will also be 3 Männ Sing – a band from Highworth’s German twin town of Wassenberg.

Then following all of the excitement on Saturday events will be more laid back on Sunday with a morning church service followed by the flower festival in St Michael’s church before proceedings are rounded off with cream teas.
