PAUL Dowman, better known as rapper Grim Sickers, is on cloud nine after sealing a deal with The Streets frontman Mike Skinner to release a track under his record label.

All this week the 28-year-old, from Oakhurst, has been visiting national radio stations, including BBC Radio 1Xtra and Capital FM, to promote the new single called Kane, written and performed by Paul.

And most of the exposure has been thanks to the support from the Dry Your Eyes hitmaker, Mike, who has been helping promote the single which they hope to officially release next month.

“I grew up listening to Mike and still when I’m meeting him I can’t believe it is happening,” said Paul who went to the former Greendown School and studied plumbing at Swindon College.

So far, the song has received positive feedback and KISS FM has featured it as their ‘track of the week.’

Rapping legend Mike, 37, first got wind of Paul after listening to him on Radio 1Xtra earlier this year, which the Adver reported back in April.

Paul’s manager Despa Robinson, who has his own record label Days of Genius, is also friends with fellow Brummie Mike and decided to team up with Mike’s label; Mike Skinner LTD to make the track become a reality and Paul’s feet haven’t touched the ground.

“It’s surreal, that’s the perfect word to describe it,” said Paul, a former Honda employee.

“We are hoping to make the music video in the next couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile Mike is also taking Paul on tour with him with Tokyo World festival in Bristol next week being the next pit stop.

Speaking about making the song, Paul said: “It’s inspired by the wrestler Kane but it is also a play on words like Harry Kane, Michael Caine and sugar cane.

“I wrote it about two months ago and I did it real quick – about 20 minutes. I wrote it before I even met Despa.

“My friends and family are over the moon but not all of them know yet. I’m hoping the next step is that I can do an album.”

Paul has also credited his father Wayne for inspiring him to continue following his dreams.

“My dad really inspired me to keep going,” he added. “I was going to stop because I thought I was going to go nowhere but from there Mike has now picked up the track.

“Despa has also really helped uplift my career.”
