Folk rock band The Leylines are heading along the old straight track to Swindon tonight.

The musicians take their name from the mystical lines believed to connect ancient or prehistoric sites. This year has seen the multi-instrumentalists set up a crowd-funding campaign to record their debut album. Fans flocked to fund the folkster's venture, and soon The Leylines were busy laying down tracks at the Metway Studio, home to folk rock giants The Levellers.

"To say the Metway is our Mecca is an understatement and to secure the amazing talent of the awesome Sean Lakeman to produce our album is the icing on the cake,'' said Steve Mitchell, lead singer.

Producer Sean has worked with artists such as Frank Turner, Bill Bragg, Seth Lakeman, Snow Patrol, The Strypes and The Levellers.

Joining Steve in The Leylines are Matthew Wilkins on guitar, Peter Fealey on bass, Dave Burbidge on drums, and Hannah Johns on violin.

The Leylines come from Western Supermare and their folk punk sound is inspired from a combination of the Levellers music and the rolling hills of the English countryside.

They are a popular festival band, headlining last year at Sat In A Field Festival, they also played Watchet Music Festival and Livestock Festival and many others. Other highlights were performing with Ferocious Dog at Exeter Phoenix and playing for the first time in Wales.

The musicians will be playing songs from the new album, entitled Along The Old Straight Track, at Swindon's Level 3, Commercial Road, Swindon from 8.30pm tonight. They will be supported by Jenny Bracey at the free gig. For more details call 01793 534238 - Flicky Harrison
