SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb sees no reason why his side can’t spring an upset and clip the wings of Welling United tomorrow.

Marine travel to Park View Road in the FA Cup thirrd qualifying round in fine fettle, having gone the month of September unbeaten.

With the Wings struggling to take flight in the National League South, two levels above Supermarine in the football pyramid, having picked up just two wins in their opening 12 league games, Webb says his side will go to Welling full of confidence but won’t underestimate their opponents.

“It’s fantastic for everyone at the club that we are in this position,” said Webb.

“We’ve got the chance to go to an ex-Conference club, who have been relegated to the National League South, and they are a massive side.

“We have earned the right to go and play at Welling this round and I don’t just want us going to enjoy the day, we have got to go there believing that we could cause an upset.

“We’re only two games away from the first-round proper and the players have to realise that.

“They have had a difficult start but rest assured, we have watched them and they have got some excellent players and it is only a matter of time before things change for them.

“They have got experience and quality throughout their team.

“We’ll go there and show the respect they deserve but we won’t go there and play with any fear.

“I want the players to go and relax, express themselves and try and cause, what would be, a huge upset.”

Marine will be without George Reid, cup tied, for the trip after the forward made an immediate impact, scoring twice on debut in a 4-1 away win at Bishops Cleeve.

Ash Taylor, who hobbled off in the second half against Taunton Town last weekend, will also be a doubt as the club continues to access the extent of his hamstring injury.

“George is a player that I watched for a long time when he was at Dicot and he always impressed me,” added Webb.

“He has got great pace and has got an eye for goal.

“We played him as a nine on Tuesday, Connor Waldon was rested, and he has come in and scored two goals.”
