EX-BRISTOL City manager Steve Cotterill has been linked with the vacant manager’s role at Coventry City.

Tony Mowbray resigned as manager of the club on Thursday with the Sky Blues lying rock bottom of League One.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough boss stepped down after 18 months in charge at the Ricoh having not won a league game in their opening 10 league games.

“The table doesn’t lie,” Mowbray, 52, said following Wednesday’s 2-2 home draw with AFC Wimbledon, which proved his final game in charge.

“It’s embarrassing to go 10 games without a win. I’m an honourable guy.”

First team coach Jamie Clapham has also left, with Mowbray’s number two Mark Venus taking responsibility of first-team duties for today’s trip to Port Vale.

SOUTHEND United have further bolstered their ranks with the addition of former Coventry and Celtic striker Marc-Antoine Fortune.

With former Swindon Town striker Nile Ranger currently sidelined with an ankle injury, the Shrimpers have moved to remedy their lack of fire power.

The 35-year-old, who was a free agent after leaving Coventry at the end of last season, has signed a contract until January 23.

Fortune is available to make his debut against Peterborough United this afternoon.

FLEETWOOD Town have loaned attacking midfielder Elliot Osbourne to Tranmere Rovers.

The 20-year-old has joined the National League outfit on a one-month loan deal to provide cover for injuries.

Interim Tranmere manager Paul Carden said: “With the recent injuries we have suffered, suspension to Jeff Hughes and Lois Maynard’s upcoming international duty with St Kitts & Nevis, we felt it necessary to strengthen our midfield options.

TRIBUTES have been paid to former Shrewsbury Town assistant manager Graham Hawkins, who has died at the age of 70.

Hawkins was in the dugout at the Gay Meadow in the early 1980s alongside manager Graham Turner before going on to manage his boyhood club Wolves.

The former Wolves player was diagnosed with low grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2009.

BOLTON Wanderers midfielder Jay Spearing has been named PFA Fans’ Sky Bet League One Player of the Month.

Almost 8,000 votes were cast in the poll, which was held on the Sky Sports website and apps, with the midfielder securing victory with 2,997 votes.
