TRIBUTES are pouring in for James Baker who has died aged 26 from cancer.

The popular Swindon man died on Tuesday night in Germany, where he was receiving alternative treatment for the inoperable disease which also claimed his father's life.

Friends have described him as an “inspiration,” a “best friend to everyone” and a “fun-loving” legend who battled the disease with incredible courage and positivity for more than two years.

Hundreds are sharing memories on social media and posting messages of love for James and in support of his family and girlfriend of three years, Amber Ingram, 22.

The Adver hopes to write a tribute piece to celebrate James’ life with his family when they return home from Germany.

Jason Elbourne said: “Swindon has lost the most inspirational, fun and loving guy that I have ever met and I can honestly say that I’m grateful to have known such an amazing, happy guy.

“You will be sadly missed mate, you touched the lives of so many and I hope that now you chill out up there and watch down on us all.”

Danielle Brown wrote: “You was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all. We’re all so proud of your strength and your positivity.

"Your life impacted many and I’m so glad you got a chance to see how much everyone cared and came together to support you. I know that made you happy.”

As we previously reported, James set up an online fundraising page to help his mum Val cover the costs of his treatment and recovery.

Swindon Advertiser:

It was hoped it could be the breakthrough he and his family desperately needed to prolong his life as the cancer had stopped responding to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The appeal touched the lives of people in the town and even around the world, with almost 1,000 people donating at: gofundme.com/bakemanalternative

Since his death money is continuing to flood in and his family have spoken of James’ wishes that part of the £30,000 raised will be donated to cancer charities and people in his situation.

Fundraising events planned for James will also still go ahead to pay for "the send-off he deserves," his pals have said.

"His death has broken my heart," said Steve Vincent. "He was the nicest bloke you could meet."

Steve, from Royal Wootton Bassett, met James in 2014 while they were both having cancer treatment in Oxford.

The 22-year-old, who is now in remission, is organising a family fun day at Charrin's Bar & Grill in Royal Wootton Bassett High Street and has promised it will be the "biggest and best" day in memory of his much-loved friend.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 15 and run from 11am to 1am.

It will feature a raffle, tombola, live music, DJ, Victorian hair styling, trampoline and bouncy castles. A group of James' friends will also be having their hair shaved off.

Meanwhile another pal to pay tribute to James is Ellis Green.

She said: “You were an inspiration, a hero and a best friend to everyone. You have the most beautiful soul and I’m so grateful I was lucky enough to know you.

“You will always be my hero James and I hope you knew how loved you were because you’re simply irreplaceable.”
