SHOP staff and passers-by came to the aid of a pensioner this afternoon after she suffered a head injury on Victoria Road.
The 84-year-old woman fell from the step of a number 22 bus shortly after 3pm as she attempted to dismount onto the pavement outside the Prospect Hospice shop.
Despite sustaining a nasty wound to the side of her head, the woman was conscious and talking.
Passers-by stopped to offer support - blankets and cushions were brought out by Prospect staff and members of the public offered their mobile phones to call the emergency services and contact the woman's family.
A rapid response car from the South Western Ambulance Service raced to the scene to treat her injuries and a full size ambulance responded shortly after.
The woman was taken to hospital for further checks.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We received a call shortly after 3pm to reports of an elderly lady with a head injury.
"We sent two resources to the scene - a rapid response car and an ambulance.
"The woman was taken to Great Western Hospital by ambulance but her injuries do not appear to be serious."
