A MAN who is accused of stealing almost £150,000 from a management company is to go to trial before a judge and jury.

Andrew Basson, who is facing a private prosecution by Deaves Court Management Limited, pleaded not guilty to two counts of theft.

The 64-year-old is first said to have taken £109,237.39 from the company between April 30, 2011 and June 1, 2011, and £40,000 on April 2, 2014.

Judge Sir John Royce, sitting at Swindon Crown Court, adjourned the case for a trial date to be fixed and released Basson, of Mardale Close, Nine Elms, on bail.

The company takes its title from the original name of the site and its members are the leaseholders of the 36 flats and owners of 56 one-bed houses.

Barnum Court, which is between the outlet village and Bruce Street roundabout, has 120 properties but only 92 contribute to the upkeep of the communal grounds.

A man has pleaded guilty to stealing meat and laundry products worth £64.18 from the Co-op in Windbrook Meadow.

Robert Peapell, 29, of The Bungalows, Pinehurst came before a district judge in Swindon where he admitted stealing the items on Sunday, September 25.

Judge Joanna Matson ordered one day’s detention as punishment but she deemed it already served because of the time Peapell had spent in the cells ahead of his court appearance. Peapell was also ordered to pay compensation to Co-op of £64.18.

Katie Goodhew, 30, of William Street, has pleaded guilty to driving without insurance in September last year. She came before a district judge this week. Goodhew was ordered to pay a £40 fine, a £20 victim surcharge and £50 in costs.

Richard Vincent, 46, of Penhill Drive, is to appear at Swindon Crown Court next month facing a charge of conspiring to supply cannabis with two others between April 2014 and July 2016. He did not enter a plea when he came before a district judge in Swindon and was released on conditional bail until November 4.

Mustafa Khayre, 25, of Stephenson Drive, Leicester, has pleaded not guilty to possessing crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply on October 13 last year in Swindon. The case was adjourned until October 14 at Swindon Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

Daniel Healey, formerly of Hatton Gardens, has appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice between January and April this year.

The 32-year-old who is now living in West End, Minchinhampton, Stroud, was not asked to enter a plea at Swindon Magistrates’ Court for the charge.

He did however plead guilty to failing to comply with suspended sentence requirements as he had not attended probation service meetings, and for failing to surrender to police custody as he had moved out of the area.

The part-time mechanic was ordered to pay £360 in fines and court costs and was released on conditional bail ahead of his next court appearance on November 4 in relation to perverting the course of justice.

Shane Newman is to face trial over whether he drove a car without insurance on November 4 last year. The 23-year-old of Elmore pleaded not guilty at Swindon Magistrates' Court. The trial is to take place in Salisbury on November 28.

Kieren Evers is to face trial over whether he had kitchen knife on him in Tamworth Close, wasted police time by giving a false report and trespassed and stole a passport from a house in Crawford Close, Freshbrook on September 2.

The 20-year-old of Holbein Square will appear at Swindon Crown Court on November 4 and has been released on conditional bail until then.

Wayne Lawton has pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman in March of this year.

The 59-year-old of Elm Park, Royal Wootton Bassett appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court and was given a three-year conditional discharge and must pay costs of £105.

Hazel Richardson, of Penhill Drive, has pleaded guilty to assaulting another woman on September 1 in Oaksey Road. The 25-year-old was ordered to pay £175 in court costs and fines when she appeared in Swindon Magistrates' Court.

A warrant for the arrest of Ricky Wharton, 32, has been issued by Swindon Magistrates' Court after he failed to turn up for his hearing.

He is charged with six offences, including driving a black BMW on the M4 whilst disqualified.

The alleged incidents are said to have happened on April 19. Wharton, of Park Avenue in Capel Hendre, Dyfed, is also charged with driving without insurance, obstructing a police officer, being in possession of Diazepam tablets and for not surrendering to Gablecross Police Station or the court.
