A FORMIDABLE family of fundraisers have taken part in an epic challenge to raise funds for a children’s cancer charity.

The Weaving family, from Hayden End, pledged to do something special when visiting their favourite holiday town of Bournemouth at the beginning of October.

Mum Claire, 38, successfully completed her first 10k run and the children, Angelica and Fletcher, age six, took part in a junior 1.5k challenge.

Dad Martin, 36, a seasoned runner, ran a half-marathon in preparation for next year’s London Marathon.

The family managed to raise more than £300 for Children with Cancer UK, though the total figure is expected to be closer to £400 when all the donations are in.

Claire, who works at Bespoke Training Services (Wiltshire) Limited in Old Town, said: “Martin has completed the full marathon in Bournemouth before, but this time we thought we would try our first ever running competition as a family.

“We go down to Bournemouth quite a lot and we have been talking about doing something like this since March.

“Personally, I found it very challenging, especially with all of the training and preparation. But I’m so pleased we made the effort to do it.

“I’m not much of a runner and I had been training for months beforehand. A lot of people would laugh at 10k, but it was more than enough for me.

“The kids really enjoyed it, too. It was great to see them taking part.”

Claire was supported in her challenge by her boss and friend Anne Messer, managing director of Bespoke Training Services.

Anne said: “I’ve watched Claire train hard to achieve this personal challenge and we are all so proud of her. She’s done a brilliant job on the road as well as in the office.”

Claire added: “We chose the charity because, as parents, we think it’s important to support any charity that helps children.

“They do such good work and it’s really great to be able to do something like this for such a good cause.”
