WITH childhood obesity in the headlines one Swindon pub has decided to take the lead in offering up the perfect antidote to sugary sweets and treats with its new healthy kids menu.

The new range of healthy, nutritious dishes at the Goddard Arms are guaranteed to get children happily tucking into their five-a-day fruit and veg at an appealing at £1 per meal during the half term week.

The menu has been carefully researched and created by owner Stonegate Pub Company’s food experts, firmly put children’s dining at the forefront.

“We have produced a new, customised menu that encourages children to build their own meal, much like an adult would do from the full pub menu,” says marketing manager Sarah Taylor.

“In addition to great choice, we’ve also considered cooking methods and ingredients. We now use Smartcrumb for our salmon fishcakes, a low fat, non-fry breadcrumb coating rich in Omega 3; our burgers are made with reduced salt and fat; and desserts are low fat with no added sugar.

“For our young diners, they just see yummy burger or fish cake on the menu, but the small print for the parents points out the nutritional benefits.”

George Hoard general manager of the pub said: “Children are not ‘add-ons’, they’re important customers. Offering a menu that goes above and beyond the old-fashioned three-choice kids’ menu demonstrates we are putting our money where our mouth is, or more accurately, where our young customers’ mouths are.”
