SWINDON head coach Sean Lynn is hoping that the week off has not had an adverse effect on his team as they prepare to host Reading tomorrow.

The Greenbridge Road side headed into the seven-day break on the back of their first win since the opening day of the season after coming through a bruising battle with South West One East bottom side Oxford Harlequins.

There was much relief and joy from that 12-6 win at Marston Ferry Road, but Lynn felt that result came from learning lessons from previous mistakes.

“We were in a similar position last season against Oxford Quins, but that day we ended up losing (27-24),” Lynn said.

“Then this year against Old Pats (Patesians), we should have closed the game out.

“So to learn from those mistakes was very pleasing, it is just a shame that we had a week off.

“Hopefully we won’t have lost any of the momentum we took from that game.”

Reading will arrive tomorrow with a similar record as their hosts, with both team winning two of their opening six matches, but sit above Lynn’s men by one place and one point courtesy of collecting two losing bonus points to Swindon’s one.

“It is always a tough game against Reading,” the Swindon head coach said.

“They are a well-drilled outfit forwards-wise and their backs are sharp.

“But our front five, in particular our hooker Joe Jones and our tighthead Guido Suarez, give us a really platform to build on.

“We know that if you look at the results of the past, we have gone out and got six wins by the end of October and then fallen away as the weather gets worse.

“That is something we are working very hard on. Skill-wise, we have the backs to the spread the ball wide, sometimes we just need to have a think about our kicking game.”

Jordan Sheppard is unavailable for Swindon this weekend, however, Lynn is set to welcome back Sam Williams after he picked up an ankle injury in the second match of the campaign against leaders Maidenhead.
