A CAMPAIGN to win a year of funding for a lollipop crossing outside Orchid Vale Primary School has gone live.

Pupils, parents and staff fear heavy traffic and bad parking are putting the lives of children at risk outside the school gates in Torun Way.

And the Park Smart project is in with a chance of winning £25,000 of funding from insurance giant Aviva’s community fund if they can attract enough support from the public.

Chairman of the parent teacher association Sarah Grayland, who is a casualty nurse and has treated young school run accident victims from all over Swindon, said: “Hopefully we will gather enough votes to fund a lollipop person to help escort the children safely across the road.”

The school is also pushing for no parking zig zags and double yellow lines outside the school.

Visit community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-609 to vote for the project. Anyone in the UK can vote online until November 18.

Aviva’s community fund will fund 800 projects all over the country with awards ranging from £1,000 to £25,000. Past winners in the Swindon area include Ridgeway Breast Care Support Group
