CBEEBIES star Gemma Hunt returned to her former stomping ground on Monday to entertain children with a pirate-themed fun day with Active Trowbridge.

The Trowbridge-born presenter, who attended Staverton Primary and John of Gaunt, amused the youngsters with a number of games which are a take from her series popular series Swashbuckle.

The 34-year-old said: “I have been told that some of my old school mates’ children are here and it is great to entertain the kids I went to school with so it is always nostalgic to come back.

“One thing I miss about Trowbridge is the accents and it is good pirate accent to have so has helped me with the show. The fun day has been such a lovely day and it is great that the children have something to do in the school holidays.

“Trowbridge has changed so much over the years with new shops and places to eat opening up. When I was younger, we desperately wanted a cinema and now that I’ve left I can’t believe there is one.”

The fun-filled afternoon, held at Paxcroft Primary School, was part of Active Trowbridge’s Active Fun Days which pair sport-based activities with educational games for children during half term.

Miss Hunt, whose parents still live in Trowbridge, said she was thrilled to make an appearance as an ambassador for the organisation.

She added: “It is a really nice thought to think that you are aspiring these children to say they can do what they want and achieve their dreams. Whether they want to get into entertainment or go into sport or even work with children, we want to show them they can go out and get their dreams.

“To be an ambassador for Active Trowbridge is quite an honour because to me and my family, I am just Gemma from Trowbridge. I get to do the most amazing jobs and I have been able to perform at the Albert Hall as well as travel to all of these fascinating places but at the end of the day, I’m just Gemma who grew up in Trowbridge.”
