A TROWBRIDGE apprentice is one of the south west's top apprentices after receiving a highly commended in the National Apprenticeship Awards.

Megan Mounty, was selected from hundreds of apprentices to attend the award ceremony for her work as an apprentice in Wiltshire Council's highways department.

The 22-year-old, who is personal assistant to associate director for highways and transport Parvis Khansari, was commended by judges on how she manages high level meetings on major projects while combining her work with her studies.

She said: “It’s been a little overwhelming but it was a great experience and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of it. It’s really nice to know my work as an apprentice has been noticed in this way. Being an apprentice has allowed me to earn while I learn, so I develop both personally and academically. Because of my apprenticeship I am now very positive and excited about my future and hope to carry on my learning to degree level, with a view to progressing into a leadership role.”

Wiltshire Council currently employs 31 apprentices in a range of areas.
