NEW York-born singer-songwriter Nell Bryden will take spectators on a deeply personal journey through a life touched by hardship and triumph at the Arts Centre tonight.

Hot on the heels of the release of her fourth studio album, Bloom, the American artist will share fresh material for the first time and delight fans with numbers from her soulful back catalogue at the intimate performance.

The daughter of a classical soprano and a visual artist, she trained in classical cello as a child. It is not until her teenage years that her life as a singer began.

Exhilarated by her first encounter with the music of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, Bryden tuned her ear to new techniques from a gamut of genres, gathering an eclectic range of influences that have shaped the distinctive voice she has become known for.

Her 2012 breakthrough single Sirens – a haunting testimony based on her experience

witnessing the 9/11 attacks - attracted the attention of music legend Cher, who covered the track in her album Closer To The Truth.

Since then, Bryden has become a firm favourite on the Radio 2 playlist and her work has been championed by the likes of Chris Evans, Jools Holland, Janice

Long, Gary Barlow and the late Sir Terry Wogan.

In 2014 she hosted a Radio 2 special of transatlantic hits, Nell Bryden’s New York Hour, while January 2016 saw her present four-part series Nell’s Angels, in which she celebrated great female artists across a number of genres. Nell Bryden’s show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20. To book go to swindontheatres.co.uk or call 01793 524481.
