A DANISH shop which sells quirky items for the home and office has opened in Swindon town centre.

In the run up to Christmas, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, known as the ‘Ikea of the high street, has opened its doors in the Parade, next to H&M and Savers.

The shop, which begun life as a pop-up, is looking to move to a more permanent base once it has tested the town centre waters over the festive period.

Manager Sam Henderson said business had been booming since the shop opened last week.

Sam said: “Since opening on Saturday Flying Tiger has been going down a storm in Swindon. It’s been great to see so many people coming in to experience what Flying Tiger is all about – with quirky products and home goods it’s something a bit different on the high street and is perfect for anyone needing a unique gift for this coming Christmas holiday.”

Flying Tiger, which was founded in 1996, has more than 500 stores worldwide and 80 outlets in the UK.

It sells a range of quirky and colourful accessories for the home and workplace including a wine holder shaped like a pair of legs, finger tip lights and a waterproof festival poncho for couples.

All products have a Danish theme or inspiration.

And Sam said the shop’s unusual array of goods were proving a hit with customers

“A lot of people come in here and don’t quite know what to expect then end up leaving with lots of little bits for their homes or offices.

“There are mini shopping baskets and trolleys that have proved really popular so far along with baskets that people can wear on their heads to catch things in.”

Sam said, provided that business continues to flourish, the shop will be looking for a permanent town centre space in the new year

“We’ll be seeing how Christmas goes for us and if it continues to go as well as it has done we’ll be looking at moving to a stable base still in the same area and expanding,” he said.

“I think Flying Tiger is something different for Swindon, it’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s affordable so anyone can come in and buy something that little special for themselves or for a loved one.

“It’s been great to see so many people coming into the shop. It’s gone better than we had expected if I’m honest.

“There’s a lot of cool bits and pieces that people can get to brighten up their homes and it brings a smile to people’s faces.

“The team are also really enjoying themselves so things look very positive for us.”
